Therapeutic philosophy

Welcome! :) I'm Stacey ten Brink (born 1988), a gentle, creative, and intuitive psychologist. Gentle in the sense that I'm empathetic and sensitive, and I consider creating safety in the therapeutic relationship crucial for processing and addressing difficult issues. Creative in the sense that I'm brimming with ideas and use a variety of methods to tackle specific problems. And intuitive in the sense that I'm deeply attuned to the person before me and can accurately sense their needs, using the right words. I do this in an honest, respectful, and assertive way. I'm a psychologist who focuses on the person behind all problems, rather than on labels or diagnoses. This allows me to view people from a holistic perspective, where a person isn't simply a separate entity. In my (professional) experience, people are so much richer in information and consist of many layers of experiences and (relational) complexities that a diagnosis doesn't always do justice to. We are so much more! I emphasize this in therapy by focusing not only on the problems but also on the things that are going well, thus highlighting a person's positive qualities and strengths. My deep interest in and curiosity about people, combined with my excellent listening skills, initially led me to choose psychology. During my academic studies and internships, as well as my work as an independent psychologist in recent years, I've been able to utilize these qualities in many valuable sessions with people facing diverse needs. Therapies I use include cognitive behavioral therapy, ACT, narrative therapy, and systemic therapy, where I consider the individual's context. During sessions, I also explain the processes that occur within and between people through psychoeducation. I also focus heavily on emotional work, for example, using an attachment perspective and inner child work. But I'm far from done learning and will therefore continue to develop my skills! Besides my academic and professional experience, I've weathered many difficult storms in my personal life over the past 30 years. This has allowed me to experience many painful things, which have simultaneously taught me a great deal of life's wisdom. As a result, I have a strong sense of empathy and understanding, and I can easily empathize with the various difficulties people face. In addition to the methods, I use this wisdom in my coaching, share it with people, and demonstrate that there is always hope for improvement in life. With the right support and approach, the deepest valleys can truly lead to personal growth. My approach in sessions is described by previous clients as positive, warm, empathetic, unbiased, optimistic, honest, insightful, and interactive, through asking questions, providing explanations and insights, and making pertinent observations. People generally feel comfortable with me quickly, which helps when it comes to sharing sensitive and difficult topics. Who is welcome to visit me? Adolescents, young adults, and adults experiencing challenges (attachment issues, parenting challenges, parent-child issues, relationship issues, behavioral and emotional problems, depression, anger, burnout, fears, insecurities, low self-esteem/self-worth, feeling lost, trauma, grief/loss, ADHD, ASD, and OCD) are welcome to join me for sessions. I offer individual sessions in Dutch and English. You can receive online counseling from me.
